Where The Sky Meets The Sea

It was early in the morning when we began getting ready for a trip to an island called Guimaras. My cousin Fae went home on a vacation from another country so we decided to unwind at the beach and go island hopping along with my other cousins and friends. It was only just for a day but we had so much fun.

The sun burned our skin but the wind blew our hair as we traveled across the ocean. It was a 30 minute pump boat ride, or even less than that. I think it was my fault but we went to a wrong place. We were supposed to go to the other side of the island but I insisted that it was on this side. I didn’t know why I was so sure. I guess it’s because I haven’t had enough sleep from being too excited. Luckily, the guide said that the travel time would still be the same regardless of which part of the island we came from. Phew! Thank God! We occupied the whole jeepney and it was an hour ride to the beach resort, Raymen’s.

We were greeted with white sand, blue waters and coconut trees. No matter how many times I’ve been here already, its beauty still amazes me. The water seems so inviting but we were more excited about the 2 hour island hopping trip so off we go!

We rode on a pump boat again along with a tour guide who entertainingly introduced the islands to us. Most of them were private owned by foreigners. Fun fact: a foreigner cannot buy an island here in the Philippines without a Filipina wife. Some has made it into a resort while some built houses on top of it and maybe it’s their beach house or summer house or whatever you call it.

The sea was pretty calm that day but when the boat increases its speed, I can’t help but feel the waves with my hand.

I think this is called the Turtle Island. I wonder why cuz I haven’t seen any turtles in there. haha. We got off the boat and explored this tiny island for awhile. The water was so clear and there were huge rocks.

We also went inside a cave and took a dip there. I forgot to bring my swimsuit which sucks so I just took a dip in my dress. Something bit me and it was so itchy. I don’t know if it’s a jellyfish or something else but it was just enough for me to climb up again on the boat. I guess I was just traumatized when I stepped on something when I was young and it made my skin really red and blotchy.

The whole ride was pretty fun. I just met my cousin’s friends that day but we bonded. We talked about love mostly and learned a thing or two.

We were pretty famished when the ride ended. So we ordered a bunch of Filipino food and it was delicious. Some of us slept but I walked around the island for a bit and took a lot of photos. I think I also took a photo of my cousin sleeping. haha.

It was time to go and we rode on a tricycle this time. It was an hour and a half ride. My cousin’s friend Kuya Egyl tried to have a conversation with me but most of the time I didn’t understand what he was saying cuz I was really tired. I couldn’t help but sleep on that ride and thankfully, he stopped bothering me with his ghost stories.

And this is when the sun bends its knees to kiss the ocean. It was already dark when we went back to the city. I was dead tired but I had to meet someone so I did. And this was only just the beginning.

Beautiful pictures! I’ve been to one of the Hundred Islands in the Philippines but didn’t have time to see the others. Such an amazing country.

And I know some of these foreigners worked hard (money-wise and I guess maybe marriage-wise?) for their vacation homes, but it’s kind of sad when, for example, Hawaii has a lot of homeless while there’s empty houses on HUGE lots that rarely get to welcome anyone home.

Anyways, I really want to go back to the Philippines and experience more of the country my mom grew up in. My first visit really changed my perspective, and I guess I count as a foreigner too, but I wouldn’t mind living there, haha. Not hogging land, but actually living.

Thanks Cassandra! Philippines really is a beautiful country. There are 7,107 islands so there’s plenty more you haven’t seen yet. You should definitely go back here. And maybe live here. 🙂

I live in the West Coast, but hands down the Philippines has one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Too bad I haven’t explored enough while I was there, but that’s something we’ll work on when we come home to visit my family.?

Haha! I was so guilty and it was embarrassing on my part cuz I was pretty sure back then that we went on the right boat. Lol. Luckily, it wasn’t that far.

I have not been to Guimaras but your photos are so inviting!! In my experience, whenever we go to a place like this, the time always passes by soooo slow and all you wanna do while you’re there is eat and sleep, haha! Lucky you got to go here while it’s not crowded yet.. in a few month, us city people will begin to flock to the provinces again lol. 😀

Guimaras looks great! Ganda ng beach! I heard they have the best mangoes too! And if someone was telling me ghost stories, I’d be thankful I couldn’t understand and I’d probably wish I was asleep. Hehe #duwag
