I’m a fan of the show Catfish since I heard about it last month. It was interesting how other people can do that, pretending to be someone they’re not. It’s nice that the show shows both side of the story and there’s a reason behind why they use someone else’s photos. I understand how they have issues with themselves but it’s not an excuse to use someone else’s photo or break someone else’s heart. I never really knew what it feels like to be catfished or to be the girl on the photos. Until it happened to me.
My cousin tagged me one day of a screenshot of a Facebook profile. She uses my photo but with a different name. I think she found it on her suggested friends. I immediately opened that profile and she has a lot of photos of me on her profile pictures album. All of those were my photos and she claims that she’s the girl in those photos. Her current one is the same as my current Facebook profile photo, she just edited it using another filter. I saw a photo of her dog there too. I wish I have that dog cos it’s cute. Lol. Some of her posts were private. Who knows what she posted on there and who knows what the reason behind why she’s using my pics instead of hers. My cousin reported it to Facebook.
After a day, Facebook hasn’t deleted it yet so I went over to that profile again. She’s a Filipino too and uses Tagalog sometimes. I’m wondering if I know her. Anyways, I messaged one of her friends who usually comments on her pics saying that she stole my photos but she doesn’t read it even though she’s online. I wonder if it’s the same person or maybe she just didn’t see it.
I scrolled some more, read the comments and I saw another fake profile. Guess what? It has my cousin’s photo! She’s claiming that the profile is her sister’s. I guess me and my cousin are sisters now. Lol. Here’s the conversation on that photo.
I told my cousin about that and she reported it on Facebook too. I bet it’s the same person who uses those two accounts. So she’s like commenting to herself? lol. She has way too many time in her hands. My cousin’s fake profile was taken down by Facebook earlier than mine. That Yvonne account is empty and not that active as the Jazzmine one. Maybe that’s why.
I know some of you might think that I’m making it a big deal. Well, what if she’s using that profile that can damage my identity? What if that girl lives in my city and people might know me as her? I know I have to do something.
Up to this day, I still don’t know who she is. I’m glad that Facebook took action and deleted that profile. I may not know what her intentions are. I kinda wished I did but I bet she won’t even respond. Maybe she just wanted acceptance or she’s dealing with personal issues and find it as a release or an escape. Whatever it is, I hope she’s not gonna do it again.
Oh my! What a terrible thing for them to do, stealing your pictures like that. I’m wondering if they’re using them in some type of role-play? I know people do that sometimes xx

Maybe?I’m not so sure. I hope not. In that case, it’s even creepier.

I would be so stressed if someone was using my photo.. Just because I wouldn’t want people get mixed up, like if that person was mean or rude, people would see me and believe I’M the mean and rude one. I am glad facebook deleted it! I hope that never happens to me ;A;
Exactly! What if she uses that account to catfish guys too? That would be so mean. I believe she just wanted to be a different person I guess but you’ll never know. I’m glad Facebook deleted it too.
This is really funny, especially that I don’t see the need to copy one’s identity. Especially on facebook. What for, right? Maybe you’re so famous in your area that’s why somebody took up your photo and claimed as hers :))) But anyway, glad you reported this. When you posted this on twitter I was like, “Uso pa pala posers ngayon?” hahaha

Haha I know! But believe me, I’m kind of invisible in this city. Maybe she knows me from a Facebook group or something. I’m not so sure.I hope she’s not from here. That would be so creepy!
Oh I didn’t read that last paragraph. Good thing FB deleted the account. 🙂
If it were me, I think I’d be flattered but also creeped out. Hahaha. It’s good that Facebook has deleted that profile, though. Who knows what that person might do and people will associate it with you.

That’s creepy! I actually just wrote about Facebook’s privacy flaws for a media ethics class. There’s a lot that needs to be changed. I’m even considering just getting rid of it all together, even making my Instagram private because it’s owned by Facebook.

That’s why I don’t post most of my posts publicly so I always customize my posts on who’s just gonna able to see it. Mostly just my cousins. I want to delete it all too but I use it to keep my family around the world updated.
I don’t think you’re making a big deal at all. That is something I think about from time to time putting so much out there on the internet about myself. I am sorry this happened to you. Creepy!

I totally don’t think you’re making a big deal of it at all. Even though you probably don’t have anything to worry about because Facebook deleted her profile, this is still a serious subject that could lead to a lot of people getting sad… I tried something like this one; someone used my Facebook profile picture but with another name. I reported the profile and it got deleted almost immediately.

I don’t know why they do this. Lie to themselves and to other people. I’m glad you found out about it too and Facebook took it down.
If it was me, I’d be really puzzled because who the heck would like to have this face?! LOL kidding aside, I’m glad that the profiles were already taken down by facebook because who knows what she might be doing, right? What if she’s recruiting people or doing some other stupid stuff — people who doesn’t know that she’s a fake would actually blame you (and your beautiful face) for something that you didn’t do at all.
I really don’t get people. Maybe she’s a weird admirer of yours (if she’s actually a “she” that is). Hehe 🙂

I think she is too. Maybe she just wants to be another person for awhile. I mean, I don’t know why she chose me either. That’s why I find it so funny. Lol. For my peace of mind, I’m glad my cousin reported it to FB first
That’s honestly so scary. The internet can be a beautiful or horrible place. Hope that doesn’t happen to you again. And as for your question, I’ve never been catfished and I hope it doesn’t happen. Who knows what they would even post about?

I know. I should’ve wanted to dig a little more on her profile but it’s private so I decided to do what’s right: report it on facebook.
What!!!! That’s so insane! Nothing like that has ever happened to me (at least nothing that I’ve ever discovered) but wow. And it was on Facebook, at that. Whoever that was, they had a lot of dedication towards being a little bit creepy and a lot a bit shady. Also impersonating both you and your cousin…haha, oh boy.

Haha I know. It’s kind of a bit flattering that they chose our photos but it is kinda creepy. I have a theory she knows me from a group on facebook or something.
I’ve had people use my photos for their profiles. IDK, I don’t really mind? I just report the profiles and ask friends to report them, too. It is annoying, tho!

Yeah it kinda is. Makes me feel uncomfortable not knowing what her intentions are. But I think they just wanna be someone else for awhile.
Oh my! That’s crazy! I can’t believe people are that ridiculous! Good thing Facebook eventually took it down.
Creepy af. Hahaha, at least it’s sort of harmless, though. And good thing Facebook deleted her profile!
We just recently found out my father has this kind of thing too, though it’s not active. He’s happy with it ’cause he thinks he is famous. Hahaha But yes it’s creepy!

It has already been deleted thank God.
It’s funny how other people see the fun and need to copy other people’s identities. But then, it is also both alarming and sad at the same time. They probably feel really sad on their own identities that they see the need to copy other people’s. Though it is still not enough of a reason for them to do so, I think people now still have to do something about it. There’s just too much of these kinds of cases nowadays. What is worse is that it can lead to fatal results.
But on a lighter note, I’m glad that profile was deleted. And I hope no one would create something like that again. It’s just so scary to think that some stranger may know every detail of your life. (Maybe that was not such a lighter note. Haha!)
Yeah it is kind of sad knowing that even on the Internet, they still fear of showing their real self online. I hope they know that then is more than enough. That trying to be someone else will not help them. I’m glad it’s all over but I wish I had the chance to talk to her.
That’s creepy! I can’t believe that actually happened. I’m glad Facebook took it seriously and shut it down.

OMG this is so funny and kinda awks! Hahahaha. I know some people who use other people’s pictures just to stalk an ex or someone who blocked them. For some though, they use other people’s pictures to find a partner, which is really sad and stupid because come on, the person will eventually find out in the end anyway, especially once they meet up! :)) It would just be a waste of time. Even if the catfish would eventually own up to what they did, the trust is already broken. I’m glad Facebook took action even though it took them a long time. Haha! xx
