Of Road Trips and Meeting New People: A Visual Diary

road trips boracay aklan

I work from home and I seldom go out and travel. I only do it whenever one of my cousins come home from abroad where they work. It doesn’t happen often, maybe like, only once or twice a year. Since I don’t have any co-workers, sometimes I don’t get to meet a lot of new people.  So when a friend invites me to go travel, most of the time, I say yes, even though that means I get to hang out with people I haven’t met yet. An introvert part of me sometimes thinks that I might not enjoy it but how can I know if I won’t experience it? And guess what? Most of the time I’m thankful I said yes because I did have a lot of fun. Just like this road trip.

Just girls. Friends of friends. Some of us met each other for the first time.

A day before the adventure, my two high school friends and I met and roamed around the city, having our mini road trip as well. One of them introduced us to her friend which we haven’t met yet. We toured her around Iloilo City. Unfortunately, my best friend couldn’t come with us on the road trip cos she was very busy. That’s okay, though.

You probably know where we headed because of the white sand. You guessed it right: It’s Boracay! It’s just 4 hours away from Iloilo. My friend drove us there, we left at around 3 am. I was asleep most of the time.

Boracay has one of the most beautiful sunsets I’ve ever seen.

I only know one out of 6 girls here. She’s my friend from high school and she invited some of her friends, her sister-in-law and her sister. Most of us only met for the first time but we bonded like we’ve known each other for so long.

Showing off my braided hair. All of us has one.

I guess you could say that I really enjoyed taking photos. After we ate lunch, we swam, talk, and ate taho.

It was so fun that night. We bar hopped outdoors and drank. It was just light drinks but OMG, I haven’t drunk 7 bottles in a night! That was a record breaker (at least for myself lol). I don’t always drink, so I’m pretty surprised at myself. We ended up going back to our room at 3 am. I was very tipsy, but I’m still conscious. I’m glad I didn’t puke but I was very very tired. After walking down the beach, we went to sleep right away. Tomorrow is another day.

From Boracay, we traveled to Antique. It was a long ride. Kudos to my friend who drove us. I don’t know how she did it cos I was very very tired from last night. She’s an excellent driver, though and her sister-in-law took the wheel from time to time. The view going there was amazing! I wasn’t able to photograph it, unfortunately.

We went to Tibiao, Antique. I have gone there twice already but I admit, the place still amazes me! For the first time, I did water rafting with them and it was so fun. I wish I had a GoPro so you can see the view while sitting on that round lifesaver. It was so beautiful! Parts of the river has fast currents so there’s an adrenaline rush going on. There were parts when the water was calm and you get the peaceful feeling that you’re truly one with nature. Imagine sitting there, looking up to the sky seeing mountains and water. So relaxing.

We hopped on the car after that and traveled back to Iloilo City. It was a long ride. I went home at 10 pm. I’m looking foraward to our next trip. Hopefully, it would be Davao. I cannot wait!

on the contrary, i meet new people when i go to work because i’m an employee (so not exactly new because i’m accustomed to seeing my co-workers but you know what i mean) but then outside from work, i don’t meet people and i refuse to. i think it’s because i just want to get all cooped up in my comfort zone that is my room since i’m in someone else’s zone (read: workplace) from morning to night hahaha

i really want to go on road trips but only with people i know. you’re awesome for having the courage to try it out! i don’t think i’d be able to since i’m usually able to distinguish whether i’m gonna click with that new person or not so imagine if the road trip lasts for hours or days – i don’t think i can stand being in the same zone, breathing in the same air as them hahaha

anyway, your photos look so awesome! i haven’t been to the beach in ages and although i hate the sun, i love the sea. i also did rafting once and i kinda miss it.

Thanks, Elise! It’s really kind of daunting to travel with people you barely know. I still get shy once in a while but I learned how not to get that in the way so that I can have fun. 🙂 So far, it’s going well. Traveling is the only way now for me to meet new people. I’m really thankful for my friends who invite me in their adventures. 🙂

I’m the same! I don’t know a lot of people nor do I have friends but during college, I got to experience how to meet and befriend strangers. I always get nervous and overthink at first being an introvert. I’m always amazed how easy it is actually… well, depending on people you meet but most of the time, people are polite and kind. Hehe

I love your photos. Looks like you had so much fun! And the Kawa Hot Bath, I didn’t know there was such a thing. It looks super cool! <3

You should try it sometime 🙂 It’s really relaxing. Sometimes it’s all in the head, but if you open up to strangers and accept their friendship, it feels so rewarding. Most of the time, people are nice. haha

I’ve always wanted to witness that sunset view in Boracay and try that Kawa Hot Bath. It looks so relaxing. Oh my, I can’t imagine where I’ll be right now if I just have the money to travel. But of course, got bills to pay. #adulting

Anyway, it is so nice to meet new friends and to get [a] day/s off from work every once in a while. We all deserve a break from our busy sched, so yea, glad you had one! 🙂

I guess that’s why it always seem like you’re in Boracay! It’s just a few hours away! I don’t know if I can do what you did, going with people you haven’t even talked to yet. The most chances I’ll do that is if I at least have one someone who was very close to me. The one time I hang out with strangers was at our team outing last year! I was booked in a room with girls from another team that I don’t even know worked at the same project. It turned out really fun tho! I should go do that more often.
